Homework Guidelines
Fourth graders are expected to do about 40-50 minutes of homework Monday-Thursday. Twenty minutes of that time should be spent reading. Below are some tips to help guide your family in helping your child with homework.
Establish a time to do homework. Consistency is important.
Create a place to do homework. It should be a comfortable, quiet, and well-lighted place. The place should include supplies such as books, a dictionary, paper, markers, and pencils.
Gather resources needed for assignments. Help determine and gather materials needed for a project. Also, suggest or contact people for an assignment such as an interview or a survey.
Encourage a school-home dialogue. Contact the teacher about any difficulties your child is having regarding homework.
Research on Homework
"Research shows that parents of academically successful students make sure they are informed about their youngsters' activities in school, their school performance, and whether or not they have been assigned homework; and they make certain that a place and time are allocated for homework."

Jane Springston - Hi, I am Mrs. Springston! I am excited to continue to be a part of the caring community of East Elementary. I have taught fourth grade for 3 years in Douglas County and this will be my 5th year educating fourth graders. I started teaching after earning my license from the University of Denver in 2005. I earned my master's degree in literacy during my first year of teaching, also from DU. I truly enjoy being a teacher and helping my students learn something new everyday. When I am not at school, I love spending time with my husband. We don't have any kids just yet, but we do have a King Charles Spaniel who is our baby! I enjoy running, playing tennis, practicing yoga, reading, doing holiday crafts and being with family and friends. I am looking forward to another wonderful year at East where I will do everything I can to help my students to be the best they can be!
